380,000 people in Minnesota are hungry or at risk of becoming hungry. In 2007, 1.8 million people visited food shelves in Minnesota. 69% of eligible food stamps are used each year. Over 10% senior citizens live in poverty.

From 2008 to 2012, visits to food shelves increased by 62% statewide according to Hunger Solutions. In the nine-country Twin Cities metropolitan area, the jump to 97% was an even bigger.
