L01: PROPERTIES OF DIGITAL GRAPHICS
19
LET’S GET STARTED…. Create the following table on a new word document and describe the meaning of each term relating to graphics TermMeaning Pixel Dimensions Dpi resolution Quality Compression Settings
20
HOMEWORK: How did you get on?
21
LEARNING OBJECTIVE: To Identify the properties of digital graphics and Evaluate their suitability for use in creating images

PROPERTIES OF A DIGITAL GRAPHIC TermMeaning Pixel DimensionsPIXEL DIMENSIONS are the horizontal and vertical measurements of an image expressed in pixels. Dpi resolutionDots Per Inch - Higher DPI means higher resolution. (300dpi = print quality) QualityHow close is an image to 100% perfection (Many factors) Compression SettingsImage compression is minimizing the size in bytes of a graphics file without degrading the quality of the image to an unacceptable level.
27
IMAGE 1: Properties 310 Pixels
28
IMAGE 2: Properties 1812 Pixels 1000 Pixels
29
IMAGE 3: Properties 1620 Pixels 1080 Pixels
30
IMAGE 4: Properties 3008 Pixels 2000 Pixels
31
ACTIVITY: Find four digital graphics relating to the same topic (e.g. boat) and save them into you Learning Outcome 1 folder: One image must be suitable for print (e.g. large pixel dimensions/300 dpi) One image should be suitable for e-mail or web (e.g. small pixel dimensions/72dpi) One image should demonstrate good quality and compression One image should demonstrate bad quality and compression 15 Minutes Timed>>
32
MAIN ACTIVITY Open your report for Learning Outcome 1: Write the title ‘Properties of Digital Graphics’ Write a suitable introduction Annotate screenshots to show the properties of each of your four digital graphics and explain how suitable they would be for use when creating different types of images (e.g. Magazine, Web, E-Mail Advert)
