Organizing and Displaying Data MEAP REVIEW: Line Plots and Frequency Tables
2
Frequency Table A frequency table lists each item in a data set with the number of times each item occurs. Example: Place the favorite NFL teams into a frequency table. 49ersBearsBearsBears BillsRamsBearsSteelers 49ersBroncosRamsLions

4
Line Plot A line plot is a graph that shows the shape of the data set by stacking X ’ s above each data value on a number line. Draw a line plot for the following semester grades: GradeStudents A4 B7 C5 D1

Bar Graphs, Circle Graph and Line Graphs MEAP REVIEW
7
A bar graph uses vertical or horizontal bars to display numerical information. Bar graphs can be used to compare amounts. Choose an appropriate scale (with regular intervals). The bars should have the same width. Bar Graph
9
A histogram is a bar graph that shows the frequency of each item. Histograms combine data into equal-sized intervals. There are no spaces between the bars on the histogram. Histogram
11
A line graph uses a series of line segments to show changes in data over time. Plot a point for each data item, and then connect the dots with straight line segments. Line Graph
12
Refer to page 336 for the line graph.
13
A circle graph is a graph of data that is presented in a circle, where the entire circle represents the whole (100%). Each wedge represents a part of the whole. Circle Graph
14
Estimate percentages as fractions. Start with the largest percentages and work towards the smaller ones. Sketching a Circle Graph
15
Example: 10%, 40%, 50% Start with 50%. 50% = ½ 50% Now look at 40%. 40% will be almost all of the top half. 40% The remainder is labeled with 10%. 10%
16
33% = 1/3 25% = ¼ 50% = ½ 20% = 1/5 Percents and Fractions
