WHAT IS BAR GRAPH? The figure below is a bar graph or bar chart or bar diagram. The bars can be horizontal or vertical and usually presented in equal widths and they do not overlap.
5
…BAR GRAPH? A graph essentially consists of bars or rectangles which are drawn either vertically or horizontally depending on the type of data and the purpose of comparison.
6
…BAR GRAPH? BAR GRAPHS ARE USED TO HELP VISUALLY REPRESENT DATA SO THAT COMPARISONS AND TRENDS WILL BE EASIER TO SEE.
8
ADVANTAGES: Visually strong Can easily compare two or three data sets
9
DISADVANTAGES: Graph categories can be reordered to emphasize certain effects Use only with discrete data
11
KINDS OF BAR GRAPH VERTICAL BARS HORIZONTAL BARS
12
VERTICAL BARS Vertical bars are generally used for chronological comparisons
16
HORIZONTAL BARS Horizontal bars are employed to show categorical comparisons

OBJECTIVES IN CONSTRUCTING BAR GRAPH: AFTER COMPLETING THIS UNIT, IF YOU ARE GIVEN A TABLE INFORMATION THAT IS TO BE DISPLAYED AS A BAR, YOU SHOULD BE ABLE TO:
21
IDENTIFY THE BAR GRAPH TITLE. IDENTIFY LABELS FOR THE BAR GRAPH AXES. IDENTIFY INFORMATION GIVEN BY A DESIGNATED BAR. DETERMINE THE SCALE OF A BAR GRAPH. CONSTRUCT A BAR GRAPH.
22
PARTS OF BAR GRAPH
24
STEPS FOR CONSTRUCTING A BAR GRAPH: 1.) DETETMINE THE FF. ELEMENTS OF THE GRAPH FROM THE TABLE TITLE OF THE GRAPH QUARTERLY INCOME of ASIA COLLEGE INSURANCE PLAN
25
LABEL FOR EACH AXIS--- HERE WE MUST DETERMINE WHICH IS TO BE THE FREQUENCY AXIS AND WHICH IS TO BE THE GROUPED DATA AXIS Sales in Million Pesos FREQUENCY GROUP DATA AXIS QUARTERS OF THE YEAR
26
SCALE FOR EACH AXIS– DETERMINE THE NUMERICAL SCALE FOR THE FREQUENCY AXIS, THEN THE GROUP NAMES FOR GROUPED DATA AXIS 120 100 80 60 40 20 0 1 ST QTR. 2 ND QTR.3 RD QTR.4 TH QTR.

2.) DRAW A SET OF AXES THAT YOU WILL USE TO CONSTRUCT YOUR GRAPH DETERMINE WHICH AXIS WILL BE THE FREQUENCY AXIS– DETERMINE WHETER BARS WILL GO HORIZONTALLY OR VERTICALLY. 120 100 80 60 40 20 0 1 ST QTR.2 ND QTR.3 RD QTR.4 TH QTR

SUMMARY Bar graphs can be used to display a wide variety of information. When data is represented in the form of a bar graph the human eye finds it very easy to compare the data and quickly draw conclusions. In short they are a great visual aid and will add a touch of professionalism to any web page or document which requires the display of data.
