Background Project designed to support and build on the work of Suffolk County Council to develop attainment levels of children in SCC schools in Maths Based on the successful formula of Reading Together, linking children, schools and families with the EADT Partnership working to drive achievement and bring Suffolk into higher ranking among the counties

Maths Together for 7-11 year olds project comprises Workbook for every child and their families Resource notebook for teachers 6 weeks supply of EADT in county and IS in Ipswich on an every other day basis, 15 copies over the 6 weeks (3/2/3/2/3/2) Materials worked on in school and at home Photographer visits schools and takes photographs of participating classes Editorial coverage of project running and maths challenges from schools included. Schools send a page of their “best” work into Archant on completion All pages have the names listed of all the children who participated It is possible that all pages are included in Maths Challenge supplement to EADT and IS Best three classes invited to Thorpe for VIP visit to Archant Press Centre and to see printing in action If printed, all participating schools given copies of EADT or IS of the day containing their Maths Together page Personalised certificates for all children

Developing Maths Challenge materials Teachers on placement at Archant Suffolk devise materials for use in classroom with teachers and at home with families –Produce workbook for children to use –Produce teacher pack/resources – aims, how the project runs, contact details – for teachers –Produce Launch presentation for the launch to parents at schools –Develop presentation on new ways of teaching Maths for parents at the launches Activities trialled Workbooks designed Workbooks printed Administration channels set up

Involving schools in Maths Challenge MC on agenda at Headteachers’ meetings Invites to schools to project launch –Within Education Areas – Ipswich, Western, Northern and Southern –(Ipswich, Lowestoft, Bury St. Edmunds, Debenham, Stowmarket options) Launch event to teachers –Presentation from Simon/Graham/Sally/EADT/IS –The teachers present the project –Schools sign up

Maths Challenge at school and home Launch event at schools for parents –where project introduced –and introductory session to new ways of teaching Maths presented Editorial coverage of project as it runs Schools run project, set homework and celebrate Maths in assemblies etc etc Schools select “best work” to make a page for publication and send to EADT or ES depending on geography Top 6 schools (judged by Editors, Education person and Celebrity – ideal would be Carol Vorderman) invited to VIP visit to Archant Thorpe Press Centre to see supplement printed Possible that supplements are printed in the EADT and ES If printed copies of EADT/ES with Maths Challenge supplement distributed to participating schools Personalised certificates for each child at every school
