Ability to identify and rectify problems in the classroom Sequence: –Plan – be proactive –Observe for symptoms –Analyze the cause of the problem –Respond to the problem –Adjust the situation to support the student –Observe again to make sure the adjustments are working

Troubleshooting Guidelines Student Behavior Possible Causes Not doing the assigned work Conflict with teacher or other students Inappropriate calling out Wondering around the classroom Long time to complete work No homework Lack of understanding, work too easy/difficult, distraction, poor work habits Avoid work Conflict with same students regularly Past negative experiences Family pattern Need for recognition Student needs to move around, avoiding work & change in expectations Poor motor skills, task too difficult, distraction No materials or space to work at home, overscheduled
