3 Classroom Guidelines and Expectations LEVEL ONE: Keep conversations on task. Remain focused on the lesson. Use a quiet voice. Remain in your seat during a directed lesson and during work time. Be prepared for class with a pencil or pen, your agenda, and your binder. Be ready to begin when the bell rings. Follow directions/expectations immediately. Work and complete assignments during class. Return completed assignments on time. Follow all “Dana Handbook” rules. *Failure to follow “Level One” guidelines will result in: a friendly reminder, teacher proximity, and/or a seat move if necessary.

4 Level Two Respect the property, materials, and feelings of others. Use appropriate language. Complete your own work unless you have permission to work collaboratively. Cell Phones/IPods off and in backpacks during class *Failure to follow “Level Two” guidelines or repeated difficulty following “Level One” guidelines will result in a self-reflection form, a phone call home, and time after school.

5 Level Three *Any repeated difficulty following “Level One” or “Level Two” guidelines, or behavior that violates California Education Code“48900” will result in a formal referral to the assistant principal. After school detention or other work detail will be assigned, and parents will be notified.

7 6/22/2016 Language Arts Curriculum is based on the California Language Arts Content Standards Six Traits of Quality Writing State and District Writing Assessments Independent Reading-one million words!

8 6/22/2016 Independent Reading The California State Content Standards encourage students to read one million words throughout the seventh grade year. Students will reflect upon their independent reading regularly. I love to recommend books to students, and have a large classroom library.

10 6/22/2016 Thinking Maps There are eight maps, developed by David Hyerle, Ed. D., as a “Language for Learning” Students will use thinking maps on a daily basis across the curriculum. Each map provides the structure for a specific thinking process.

11 6/22/2016 My Access Software A program designed to offer immediate, electronic, writing feedback to students Not designed to replace teacher feedback Middle school teachers are using this program district-wide. Many available tools to assist students with planning and revising their writing

12 6/22/2016 Challenge by Choice 0pportunities to go “above and beyond” the curriculum 0ffered throughout the quarter Students may choose to design their own challenge by choice activities Will not be counted for a major percentage of the quarter’s grade Will affect “work habits” grades, and make a difference if a student is between grades at the end of the quarter
