Information governance, or IG, is the set of multi-disciplinary structures, policies, procedures, processes and controls implemented to manage information at an enterprise level, supporting an organization's immediate and future regulatory, legal, risk, environmental and operational requirements. Information governance should determine the balance point between two potentially divergent organizational goals: extracting value from information and reducing the potential risk of information. [1][2] [1][2] Information governance encompasses more than traditional records management. It incorporates information security and protection, compliance, data governance, electronic discovery, risk management, privacy, data storage and archiving, knowledge management, business operations and management, audit, analytics, IT management, master data management, enterprise architecture, business intelligence, big data, data science, and finance. Mistakes Organizations make Choosing the wrong person to lead the effort. Protecting status quo “friends” with a particular technology provider Fear of disruption Choosing the wrong Partner Follow the Money! Who’s new and winning in the new world.. Remember Kodak, Bell & Howell, Lexmark…big money failures… They built without listening and without vision. Think Amazon Prime not Walmart: Think Uber not Hertz Think Coupa and AvidXchange not Lexmark, Laserfiche, Docuware, and other ecm Remember ECM software is just 1/5 th of what you need to execute IG Wrong Focus Don’t think Cost per Claim think eliminate Waste, Fraud, and Abuse “Competitively” Embrace: SaaS, Cloud, Global, Mobile, Artificial Intelligence
