8. 8 FCoE Sales Overview HP Restricted: Internal Use Only HP position and recommendations Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE) –I/O consolidation = a good 1 st step in the evolving journey to full-blown network convergence which will track to the development of DCB/CEE standards-development (in which HP has a leadership role) –Longer-term network convergence will require further standards development and new operating & management models (storage networking) –This is storage networking - imperatives that apply to ‘pure’ FC storage networks also apply here; end-to-end certification required for assured operation (as provided by HP) –Focus on solving real problems (e.g. improving economies and simplifying the network where you can have the greatest impact), don’t jeopardize ongoing operations –Adopt more aggressive convergence strategies in alignment with business objectives and as protocols mature (don’t get locked into proprietary/pre- standard end-end FCoE implementations)
