What is a Zentangle?! Zentangle is an easy to learn method of creating beautiful images from repetitive patterns. It is a fascinating new art form that is fun and relaxing. It increases focus and creativity. Zentangle provides artistic satisfaction and an increased sense of personal well being. Zentangle is enjoyed by a wide range of skills and ages and is used in many fields of interest So, Basically it’s doodling?? Yep! It is doodling lines and shapes to create repeated patterns in a defined space. Here is a short video that explains zentangles:

3 There are many patterns you can use when you Zentangle
Nothing is really “wrong” unless you aren’t using lines, shapes, and patterns.

4 There are tons of websites that have Zentangle ideas
Just Google image “Zentangle Patterns” and you will find a million different ideas

5 Some of the sites will give you step by step instructions
Others will just give you idea pictures like the ones above

6 Zentangles is even used as therapy
You can just “zone out” and get into your drawing.

7 That’s why they call it “ZEN” tangles!

8 Assignment - Bad Hair Day
For your assignment : find a photograph of someone you admire (a head and shoulder shot works best). Once you have the photo, enlarge it to fit on a power point or google slide. Print that photo in color. Next, cut out that person (remove all the background areas and their hair- cut carefully!) Glue your photo onto a 12x18 page of white paper at the bottom of the page Create “hair” for your person by drawing 10 ORGANIC shapes (free-flowing lines_ Divide the background into 10 GEOMETRIC shapes (straight lines, circles, etc.) Fill all the shapes created with different ZENTANGLE designs (20 DIFFERENT designs) Trace all pencil lines with sharpie marker, making the outline of the hair BOLDER than the rest. Color the hair shapes with colored pencil- leave the background b&w NEATNESS COUNTS!- erase all pencil lines and glue carefully!
