2. Warm-up Conquistador – Spanish soldier- adventurers in search of gold, glory, and land. Colony - a land claimed for and controlled by a distant nation Expedition - a journey undertaken by a group of people with a definite purpose Viceroy – royal governor.

3. Objective I will identify important individuals, events, and issues related to European exploration by creating an explorer book with the who, what, when, where, why of each individual, and a map of the explorer’s route.

4. Construction of Book Materials: – Sheet of construction paper – 4 blank sheets of white paper Fold the construction paper and blank sheet of paper in half to make a book. On the front cover write “European Explorer’s”

5. Why did the conquistadors leave Spain? Gold – they wanted wealth God – to convert people to Christianity and God would reward them for doing it. Glory – “celebrity status”. Many explorers were poor sailors and hoped to be famous and rich lords.
