5. Natural Change in Population 1950-2007 (SAMPLE ANSWER) The diagram shows the numbers of live births and deaths in the period from 1950 to 2007. The total number of deaths remained close to 50,000 throughout the period. An exception is the period around 1960 which recorded particular lows of slightly above 40,000, but the trend soon recovered. As concerns live births, the situation is vastly different. In the period of 57 years, the number of live births dropped dramatically from as many as 95,000 in 1950 to slightly over 40,000 in 2007. The decrease has been relatively steady.

7. Sample answer Tech Chart of the Day shows the volumes of sales of PCs compared with those of iOS/Android devices. It covers the period from the third quarter of 2008 to the first quarter of 2013. At the beginning of the period the sales of PCs largely surpassed those of iOS/Android devices, with the former being at around 80 million, and the latter at approximately 10 million units. Throughout the observed period PC sales remained relatively steady, fluctuating between a low of 60 million but never surpassing the high of 100 million units. Towards the end of the period, a declining trend is observed, closing at roughly 70 million units. Conversely, The sales of iOS/Android units had a steady rise which became particularly sharp from the third quarter of 2011. Apart from a slight drop in the second quarter of 2012, the rise continued to be steady and dramatic, closing at 200 million units at the end of the observed period. These trends show that, in the period in question, the personal computer still retained an important position, which can probably be explained by its widespread use in business. However, the personal mobile devices appear to be gaining popularity at an unprecedented speed.
