Gum disease is the swelling, pain or infection of the tissues supporting the teeth. Gingivitis & periodontal disease are two types of gum disease.

Gingivitis means inflammation of the gums while Periodontitis means inflammation around the tooth. Both are a serious gum infection that damages the soft tissue & bone that supports the tooth.

Periodontal diseases are infections of the structures around the teeth These include the gums, the cementum that covers the root and the alveolar bone. In the earliest stage of periodontal disease the infection affects only the gums. Diseases are the causal cause of tooth loss in adults & children.

Gingivitis means inflammation of the gums. In gingivitis, the gums become red, swollen and can bleed easily. It is a mild form of gum disease that can usually be reversed with daily brushing & flossing.

Gum disease is mostly caused by improper oral hygiene which allows bacteria in plaque and calculus to remain on the teeth and infect the gums. But there are other factors that increase the risk of developing gingivitis. Risk factors : Hormonal changes in females Diabetes Cancer Genetics

The finest way to treat gum disease is to practice good oral hygiene, although additional dental and medical treatments are occasionally essential.dental and medical treatments These treatment are two types surgical & Non surgical. Depending on the stage of disease the treatment is applied.
