Revolution in the City Why was the revolution urban? We will take city tours of Cairo and Alexandria to understand how power and counterpower function in urban spaces.

Pre-tour sessions June 5 th, 2013 (7-9pm central time) June 12 th, 2013 (7-9pm central time) Course material will be provided via moodle – No books required, drawing on articles and online materials Final Project – Tailored to student interests (visual, audio, written form)

Security and Safety Overseas Security Advisory Council There will be a health and safety module completed by each student.

Accommodations Zamalek Dorms, American University of Cairo Campus – You will be sharing a dorm with one other student

Estimated Program fees Estimated Program fee: $1600 – Housing – international insurance – tours – admission fee for sites – lectures – in-country transportation – Some meals

Program fees do not include OCE Summer tuition: est. $1720 Airfare: est. $1400

Scholarships all UIUC College of Education students (both undergrad and grad) will be eligible for a $500 scholarship from the Dean's Office through the Office of International Programs for study tours see the Study Abroad Office website for details on other scholarships including I4I (http://studyabroad.illinois.edu/cost/scholars hips.aspx )
