Be prepared - well it is true when it comes to the press interview. Know your topic; Review your notes; Have press documents ready for reporter; Develop sound part around the theme or slogan; Rehearse your presentation; Create list of questions for the media; Anticipate questions.

Be reacheable – provide media with all of your contact information, work phone, mobile phone, e- mail address. Be flexible – today many reporters use e-mail for their interviews. Some jurnalists insist on face to face interviews. Be efficient – efficiency goes a long way. It helps reporters to do better and allowes you to get the publicity you need for your business.

Be honest – if you do not know something or you are unsure, simply say so. The reporter will appreciate your honesty. This will save you from any embarising moments down the road. Be yourself – in short, avoid acting and pretending to be what you are not. Good journalists can read you and see through the facade.

Be patient – give reporter time to take down notes. It helps to speak slowly and clearly. Sometimes reporters will asky ou to repeat yourself so they can make sure they undestand what you are saying. Be clear – if the journalists speaks about anything you do not understand, simply ask to repeat the question.

Be firm – from time to time the reporter will ask you a few hard questions. If you can not address the questions, just say so. Or you can say you are not authorized to speak about the issue. Smart reporter will hardly take no for an answer, they will try to ask the question in more ways than one.

Be clourful - like most people, journalists love a good story, try to include a couple interesting points of view. It can be funny or serious. Be thorough – try to explain yourself in detail, reach for good ilustrations or analogies. Avoid yes and no answers.

Be professional – is crucial for earning respect and winning over a journalist. Be personable – when reporter arrives for interview, make him or her feel right at home. Just be sicere. Avoid to being stiff and formal as if you are on trial. Be friendly and warm. This will put you both of you in ease. Ask questions of the reporter and talk about other things to warm the atmospher.

Be generous – remember this cardinal rule: if you make the reporters job easy, you stand better chance of getting the publicity you need. Be willing to give tips for news that is unrelated to your story. Give the reporter names and contact information. When you show you are knowledgeable about an issue, the reporter will remember you in the future.

Be reliable – strive to be a source that journalists can trust – a source that they call on anytime they need a quote. After you have had an interview with reporter, you have the opportunity to cultivate the relationship. Once the story is published, send a thank you note or letter. This means a great deal to reporters. You can begin by asking the reporter to contact you if he or she has any questions or needs more information.
