BELL WORK 1-12-2016 Answer the Tuesday bell work question in complete sentences. If you finish early, begin previewing the article “Surprising Sea Slug…”
2
OBJECTIVES SPI.0707.1.5 How do materials move through simple diffusion? SPI 0707.3.2 Am I able to interpret a diagram to explain how oxygen and carbon dioxide are exchanged between living things and the environment?

AGENDA Bell Work Diffusion/ Osmosis Quiz Review Most missed questions Reassessment date Egg Osmosis Observations Need to Know How Animals Obtain Oxygen Notes Review Exit Ticket

EGG OSMOSIS OBSERVATIONS Original hypothesis Starting mass Ending mass Conclusion

NEED TO KNOW Explain your answer to question 1 in complete sentences. On question 2, use the RACES method to respond in three or more complete sentences. Restate, Answer, Cite evidence, Explain evidence, and Summarize!
6
HOW ANIMALS OBTAIN OXYGEN Gills- organs that remove oxygen from water and send it to the blood; also remove CO 2 from the blood. (Fish) Swim bladder- oxygen and gas filled organ that allows fish to stay afloat. Lungs- sac-like organ that removes oxygen from the air and puts in the bloodstream. (humans, amphibians, reptiles, birds)
7
HOW ANIMALS OBTAIN OXYGEN Air Sac- special organ attached to lungs in a bird and allow the bird to fly. Skin- Animals like amphibians can absorb oxygen through their skin. The oxygen goes directly into their blood vessels. Amphibians skin is usually very thin and full of vessels. They are able to lose water easily and that is why they usually live in water.

Match the following to their correct chemical compounds: 1.WaterA. O 2 2.Carbon DioxideB. H 2 O 3.Oxygen C. C 6 H 12 O 6 4.GlucoseD. CO 2 PREVIEW

1. Which of these equations shows the reactants and products of photosynthesis? Asugar + carbon dioxide oxygen + water Bwater + oxygen sugar + carbon dioxide Csugar + oxygen carbon dioxide + water Dcarbon dioxide + water sugar + oxygen 2. During respiration, glucose (C 6 H 12 O 6 ) and oxygen (O 2 ) react together and they produce: Aoxygen (O 2 ) and carbon (C). Bglucose (C 6 H 12 O 6 ) and methane (CH 4). Ccarbon dioxide (CO 2 ) and water (H 2 O). Dhydrogen (H 2 ) and oxygen (O 2 ). 3. Which of these statements best describes the relationship between photosynthesis and cellular respiration? AThe reactants of both processes are the same. BBoth processes form the same products. CThe products of one process are the reactants for the other. DBoth processes use energy from the sun to make food. PREVIEW

Exit Ticket 1.What are two ways besides lungs in which animals might obtain oxygen? 2.Give an example of a type of animal that uses each of these two ways. 3.Animals breathe in O 2. What gas do animals put out as a waste product? 4.Preview challenge: What are the chemical symbols for glucose, water, and carbon dioxide?
