Magnetic Field of a Coil
2
Part I B vs. I 1.Wrap 10 turns of wire around the hollow cylinder next to the hole in the side. 2.Connect the power supply to the wire. Insert the magnetic field probe into the hole in the side. With the power supply off, zero the sensor. 3.Turn on the power supply and set it to 3 Amps. Record the magnetic field. 4.Repeat for 2.5, 2.0,1.5,1.0 and.5 amps. 5.Measure and record the length of the coil. 6.Plot B vs. I and obtain a curve fit.
3
Part II B vs. N/L 1.Stretch out the slinky until it is.5m long. Use the masking tape to secure it to the table. 2.Connect the power supply to the slinky. Insert the magnetic field probe into the center of the slinky. With the power supply off, zero the sensor. 3.Turn on the power supply and set it to 2 Amps. Do not readjust the current. 4. Record the magnetic field. 5. Change the length of the slinky to.75m and repeat. 6.Repeat for 1.0, 1.25, 1.50, 1.75, and 2.0m lengths. 7.Count and record the number of turns in the slinky. 8.Plot B vs. N/L and obtain a curve fit.
