Background Ensuring a trained and competent workforce is imperative to health education and health promotion. A new certification, Korean Certified Health Education Specialist, was introduced for the first time in 2010. It has some similarities with the American Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) credential established in 1989. One major difference is that the Korean certification is government endorsed while the American certification is not government endorsed but rather a voluntary national credential. 2016-06-22 3
