4 Continuous Assessment Continuous assessment of teacher education candidates in Kentucky is defined as the process by which colleges and universities determine the progress candidates make as they move through teacher education programs at the elementary, middle, and high school levels.

5 Continuous Assessment at the University of Kentucky Teacher education candidates at UK are assessed at three points throughout their programs

6 Continuous Assessment at the University of Kentucky Admission to program occurs after candidates complete 60 credit hours of coursework Retention in program occurs before candidates are approved for student teaching Exit from program occurs at the end of the program when candidates have completed all coursework, field experiences, and student teaching

7 Program Admission Requirements Minimum of 2.5 grade point average (GPA) Minimum score on basic skills test (ACT, PRAXIS I, GRE) Portfolio which contains autobiography, philosophy of education, work samples from coursework, description of experience working with students

8 Program Admission Requirements On-demand writing task related to current topic in education Recommendation from three references Interview with a team of program faculty members Completion of Code of Ethics form

9 Scoring Criteria for Admission Evaluation forms are used to determine how well candidates meet these program admission requirements

10 Scoring Criteria for Admission Exceeds minimal expectations Meets minimal expectations Does not meet minimal expectations

11 Retention Requirements Maintain 2.5 GPA Successfully complete all coursework Make satisfactory progress on nine New Teacher Standards

12 Program Exit Requirements Minimum 2.5 GPA on all coursework at end of program Completion of all coursework, field experiences, and student teaching Make satisfactory progress on nine New Teacher Standards as indicated on the Intern Teacher Performance Record

13 Examples of Assessments Standard I: Designs and Plans Instruction Examine actual lesson plan developed by candidate and record findings on Intern Performance Record

14 Examples of Assessments Standard II: Creates Learning Climate for Students Examine observer notes from classroom observation and record findings on Intern Performance Record
