Strategic planning Strategic planning is the process through which strategies are formulated, implemented and evaluated. Strategic planning has been the subject of many meetings Weak statistical systems existing in most of our countries, the need to adopt strategic planning arose to ensure: Proper management of the activities and resources and To install public confidence in the information being generated

Why Strategic Planning In Nigeria, as in other developing countries, the NSS is usually: under-resourced, under-performing, operate under weak institutional frameworks and deploy mainly out-dated technologies in data collection, processing, management and dissemination.

Challenges Slow pace of statistical Development in many MDAs and States. Poor executive commitment Poor funding Pooling system affecting PRS departments staffing Right mix of staff Coordination activity not well rooted Etc.

CONCLUSION The National statistical system in Nigeria is evolving positively, and Government commitment towards statistics has tremendously improved in recent years. The next phase of NSDS will address outstanding areas of statistics development. All stakeholders are also required to brace up for the challenges ahead in order to fully advance the National statistical system
