Module 3 Lesson 17 Identify patterns in multiplication and division facts using the multiplication table.
2
Fluency Practice I will say a fact. You say the whole equation. For example if I said, 3 x 5, you would say: 3 x 5 = 15 Thumbs up if you understand. 10 x 7 10 x 2 10 x 1 10 x 5 10 x 8 10 x 3

Fluency Practice 10 10 x 9= 90 40 10 x 1= 10 90 10 x 4 = 40 50 30
I will say a product that is a multiple of 10. You say the multiplication fact starting with 10. For example, if I said 70- you will say 10 x 7 = 70 Thumbs up if you understand. 10 10 x 9= 90 40 10 x 1= 10 90 10 x 4 = 40 50 30 10 x 5 = 50 10 x 3 = 30

Say the full multiplication or division sentence/equation
Say the full multiplication or division sentence/equation. We will see how many we can answer in 4 minutes. 6 6 x 1 = _____ 12 18 6 x 2 = ____ 6 x 3 = ______ NOW ON YOUR PERSONAL DRY ERASE BOARD WRITE DOWN THE ANSWER TO THE FOLLOWING EXPRESSIONS: 54 ÷ 6 9 7 x 1 7 30 ÷ 6 14 7 x 3 5 24 ÷ 6 4 7 x 2 21 63 ÷ 7 7 x 8 28 ÷ 7 4 35 ÷ 7 9 49 ÷ 7 5 7 56 8 x 2 8 x 9 8 x 3 40 ÷ 8 8 x 1 72 48 ÷ 8 8 5 6 16 24 9 x 1 64 ÷ 8 9 x 2 32 ÷ 8 80 ÷ 8 8 9 18 4 10 9 x 3 27

Henry’s garden has 9 rows of squash plants
Henry’s garden has 9 rows of squash plants. Each row has 8 squash plants. There is also 1 row with 8 watermelon plants. How many squash and watermelon plants does Henry have in all?
6
Problem set! We will do the first few items together.
Once you get your problem set – write your name on your page. Then fill out the multiplication chart.
7
Color all the problems that have an even product
Orange. (I will give you about 5 minutes to work on the chart. ) Let’s look at the first orange square in the table. Write the multiplication equation on your board for the product in this square. Are the factors 2 and 1 odd or even? 1 is odd and 2 is even Look at the orange square below this one. Write the multiplication equation on your board for the product in this square. Are the factors 2 and 2 odd or even? They are both even Work with a partner to continue to look at the orange squares, and tell if the factors are odd or even. What did you notice about the factors of even products? The factors are either both even or one is odd and one is even.

Problems 1(c) and 1(d) Compare the shaded columns and shaded rows. Which factors do they have in common? 2 4 6 8 What is 5 × 4? What is 2 × 4? 20 8 How do these 2 facts help you find 7 × 4? Talk to your partner and answer Problem 1(c) on the Problem Set.
9
Is the product of 7 and 16 on this table?
Talk to a partner. How can we use this table and what we know to solve 7 x 16? SOME POSSIBLE ANSWERS: 10 sevens and 6 sevens is 16 sevens, Doubling 8 sevens equals 9 sevens and 7 sevens, We can think of 16 as and then the problem is (7 × 8) + (7 × 8). We could also add 4 sevens four times! ! Answer Problem 1d
10
Complete the chart in Problem 2 by writing the products for each equation
11
5 7 9 11 Draw the Arrays that show the Multiplication expression. 2 4 Then below your arrays write the number of squares you added to each array compared to the one before it. 9 16 25
