1990s: Multiple Bilateral Transfer Agreements – 16 university catalogs X 58 community college catalogs – Transfer agreements tended to be between local institutions – Students complained about transfer barriers, both among community colleges and between community colleges and universities Action: – In 1995, HB 739 required the UNC BOG and the State Board of Community Colleges to develop a plan for the transfer of credits between the institutions of the NCCCS and the constituent institutions of UNC. – Instructed the State Board of Community Colleges to implement common course descriptions for all community college programs by June 1, 1997. Legislative Mandate: House Bill 903 Approved – June 12, 2013 BOGs shall require each institution to adhere fully to the CAA…that addresses transfer of courses, academic credit and admission of transfer students UNC & NCCCS shall conduct biannual joint review of the CAA…to ensure it’s fair, current and relevant…finding will be given to the Joint Legislative Education Oversight Committee Biannual Report starting November 1 st Advising tool will be jointly developed to assist students/parents/faculty

Combined Course Library (CCL) Currently have 642 courses 125 are being proposed to discontinue due to no/low enrollment (less than 25 students), courses that haven’t been taught in a while

CURRENT CAAREVISED CAA Changes to the REVISED CAA AA/AS – 64 credit hours – Must graduate from NCCCS with an AA or AS degree – Must have an overall GPA of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale – Must have a grade of “C” or better in all CAA courses The NCCCS Student Applying to UNC: – Guaranteed admission to one of the 16 universities but not to a specific UNC campus or specific major – Has fulfilled the lower-division general education requirements of the UNC campus to which the student is admitted – Will receive at least 64 semester hours of credit upon admission to the UNC campus and transfer with “Junior Status” AA/AS – 60 credit hours – Must graduate from NCCCS with an AA or AS degree – Must have an overall GPA of at least 2.0 on a 4.0 scale – Must have a grade of “C” or better in all CAA courses The NCCCS Student Applying to UNC: – Guaranteed admission to one of the 16 universities but not to a specific UNC campus or specific major – Has fulfilled lower-division general education requirements of the UNC campus to which the student is admitted – Will receive at least 60 semester hours of credit upon admission to the UNC campus and transfer with “Junior Status”
