2 Natural Resources Anything that people can use which comes from nature. People do not make natural resources, but gather them from the earth. It helps them become one of the few nations that exports (to ship something to another countries or places for sale, exchange, etc.) energy. This helps their economy. - Rich soil and fishing helps them provide food and basic needs such as clothing to their huge population. Lumber – provides them with raw materials needed for creating furniture. Minerals – helps the economy and it helps them to produce energy. They can get exported and produce jobs which help the economy. Most found underground -Very rich in mineral resources such as silver, copper, Iron, Zinc and gold. Which helps the economy and they use as well as export. -Provides employment. -Petroleum is their most valuable resource since it helps them to produce energy.

5 Central America Connects North and South America Made up of 7 nations: Belize, Costa Rica, EL Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama. 6 El Salvador Smallest and most densely populated country in central America. Overpopulation cause them environmental problems. Only country in Central America with no coast on the Caribbean. 7 Costa Rica Has a greater variety of plants and animals that any other country in Central America. Rich reserve of wood More than a thousand species of orchids Has manage to use water as an energy resource. After the oil crisis in 1970’s Cost Rica was forced to use less oil. 8 Nicaragua Main Resource is farming since Volcanic deposits made the soil very fertile. It makes 60 percent of their exports, about 300 million dollars a year. Some export products are coffee, sugar cane, bananas, corn and about 50 kinds of fruit. July 22, 2012Footer text here8

10 Belize Farmaland is the most important natural resource, but only a little more than one percent of the country is used for farming. Has many kinds of plants and animals. The country has an excellent systemof protected areas to keep these plants and animals safe. 11 Panama Country with many oil deposits It produces 1,400 barrels of oil a day. Its economy is one of the most important in Central Americadue to: The amount of crops they produce. 12 Honduras 53 percent of Honduras is covered in Forest. It has a rich coastal marine ecosystem. On the Pacific coast- a mangrove system covers almost the entire coast excepts for a small area of beach. The site of Ramsar 1000, is a refuge for migratory birds and endangered species. Energy used to be 99 percent obtained by hydroelectric plants. But now 65 percent of the nations energy is from plants that burn fossil fuel. July 22, 2012Footer text here12
