Are these 2 horizontal lines the same length? Yes, they are. The top one looks shorter because the diagonal lines bring your eyes to the center making the line look shorter.

All 4 vertical lines are parallel. They look curved because the horizontal lines either pull your eyes to the center or out to the side, making the vertical lines looked curved. Are the 4 vertical lines curved?

In the world of fashion design lines can create optical illusions in clothes. The red lines are all straight!!!

Are these horizontal lines parallel with each other? YES, they are parallel, even though they don’t appear to be!

As you move your eyes around this shirt do you see that the little white center squares look black? Lines and designs can be clever and make you see things that aren’t there!!!

As you move your eyes up and down and across these shirts do you see the blue circles moving? Lines and designs can certainly show movement!

Announcement! lines and designs can make objects appear to look differently than they are! This is an important concept in fashion design! Can the lines and designs in clothes make people look taller, shorter, thinner, & heavier? YES! Continue with this presentation to find out how!

This will make a person look wider since the spaces are so large!!! This makes a person look thinner since the stripes are close together. Do both shirts make a person look equal in size? Click on each one and see the answer. Notice that both shirts have vertical lines but one has them spaced far apart and the other close together.

This will make a person look wider and not at tall This makes a person look taller and not as wide. Do lines that are vertical make a person look different than if they are horizontal? Click on the striped shirts to find out.

This will make a person look larger!!! This makes a person look thinner and not as wide. How does wearing a shirt with a large print make a person look differently than if s/he is wearing a shirt with narrow stripes? Click on the patterned shirts to find out the answer.

Which shirt appears to look larger? Click on each one to find out. Light and bright colors make people look larger. Dark and solid colors make people look smaller.

Vertical lines. …or.… Horizontal lines ? Which ones are more slenderizing?

Now you know that lines and designs in clothes can make people look taller, shorter, thinner, and heavier! Fashion designers have an important job! You can also be your own fashion consultant with the clothes you wear!
