Work Package 3 „Alignment & Monitoring of research programs and policy” Annette Angermann & Wenke Apt Brussels, 21th January 2016

 Overview of research strategies, funding programs and institutional research  Alignment of research funding across countries and thematic additions to SRA  Report on funding programs and research policy strategies in the (due 15 May 2016)  Desktop research, survey of national contact points and structured expert interviews o Questionnaire to be mailed out on 5 February 2016 o Deadline on 26 February 2016  Close coordination between WP3 and WP4 to define the categories of questionnaire  Regional scope are EU-28 countries plus EU, Canada, Norway and Switzerland o Many countries without active working contacts! J-AGE II mapping exercise 2

Mapping countries without working contacts 3 Bulgaria Croatia Cyprus Czech Republic Estonia Hungary Latvia Lithuania Luxemburg Malta Portugal Romania Slovakia  Do you have any working contacts to funding organizations in the countries?  Are the names given on the list the correct national contact points for mapping exercise?

 Online questionnaire to be sent to national contact points Free text field about specifics of the funding system  Who finances research on demographic change?  How does state funding work? (More institutional or program-based funding?)  What are current and upcoming research strategies? (Including original text or link!)  What are the research main priorities?  Which institutions carry out the research? (e.g main research centers) Free text fields to name research programs with significant content related to demographic change and structured query of program priorities  Content analysis of provided inputs related to SRA and categories coordinated with WP4  Number of mentions of keywords  Significance of programs in terms of funding volume (€ or qualitative judgement)  Thematic relevance of each program to demographic change (low, medium, high)  Country profiles, awareness of proximity of research programs across GA countries, inputs to update of SRA, blind spots, alignment opportunities Mapping approach 4

 Alignment definition in the JPI MYBL Work Programme: “The JPI MYBL defines alignment as a strategy of mutual adjustment of research programmes and activities over the full policy cycle in order to improve the quality and efficiency of research and innovation at the level of the ERA and beyond. “ Activities and Achievements:  Conceptual work on alignment  Research Policy Group  Mapping of National Research Programmes --> Development of an alignment structure on the basis of the JPI MYBL Work Programme and using Research Policy Group Meetings as starting point… (Play Ping Pong) J-AGE II – alignment 5

WP3 Update Alignment (VDI/VDE-IT) 09/2015: Alignment Workshop 1 (MS 6)-> report=minutes delivered on 26.10.2015 On the Agenda: Milestones and current status of alignment activities of JPI MYBL (Matthias Reiter- Pazmandy) Alignment activities within the CSA J-AGE II (Denice Moi Thuk Shung) Future joint call of JPI MYBL dedicated to SRA priorities “Place, Technology and Learning” (Stephen McNair/SAB, Alexander Peine/SOAB) The Active and Assisted Living Joint Programme (Daniel Egloff) Transnational Cooperation under COST (Intergouvernmental framework for transnational cooperation in science and technology) (Eva Klaper)  Discussion of Potential of structural alignment between the initiatives & Conclusions for the alignment process  Different possibilities to cooperate with COST:  Cost Network covering an aligned call (AAL JP & JPI MYBL)  Platform for exchange between the two initiatives in several ways  Targeted Networks could cover cooperation between scientific programmes  could be used as alternative to an aligned call, but also to support or fine tune aligned calls (comparable with fast track activities)

WP3 European & International Networking European Networking (ZonMw/NL): –3 meetings in conjunction with SAB activities (first meeting in April 2016) –List of related EU initiatives & projects (selection) –Workshop/presentations during JPI Conference International Networking (CIHR/CA): –4 meetings with potential partners –meetings will be carried out in webinar format, one every six months starting in Spring 2016 (Japan) –focus of this task is to network with third countries in order to encourage their participation in JPI-MYBL as full partners
