1 Teacher Guide This lesson is designed to teach kids to ask a critical thinking question that you can’t just put into a search box to solve. To do that, we encourage them with smaller questions that search can help them answer. Make sure that you read the notes for each slide: they not only give you teaching tips but also provide answers and hints so you can help the kids if they are having trouble. Remember, you can always send feedback to the Bing in the Classroom team at BingInTheClassroom@Microsoft.com. You can learn more about the program at bing.com/classroom and follow the daily lessons on our Partners In Learning site. 3 Sometime during the 11 th century, the people living in the Shogawa River valley built homes in a style known as gasshō-zukuri. This A-frame design is constructed using only wood, rope, and thatch for the roof. Due to the isolated nature of the region, the homes that comprise the Historic Villages of Shirakawa-go and Gokayama have been mostly untouched by modern development. Visitors to the prefectures are essentially taking a trip back in time, which is what earned the villages UNESCO Heritage Site status. What is the purpose of UNESCO Heritage Sites?
