The objective of the Session Students are expected to: -Read some tips of writing process analysis paragraph. -Use transition words correctly. -Write a process analysis paragraph. -Read some examples of parallel structure. -Rewrite some sentences using correct parallel structure.

Tips for writing a process analysis paragraph: - Divide the process intended to be defined into different steps. - Sequence the steps into correct order. - Use time phrases, time clauses, and time words (transition words) to show time order in a process. Notes the following examples of transition/time words: First, you should attend every session of the course. Then, separate the lettuce leaves from their head. Next/ (The next step/thing) The next thing you should.. The last step/Finally you should be in touch with the … Before you serve the coffee, give everyone a glass of …. After the foam forms, take the coffeepot from the heat …. Invite students to turn back to paragraph50, p. 112 and circle all the transition words that they can find.

Write a process analysis paragraph which describes how to make a vegetable salad. The following pictures may help you. a bowl Favorite vegetables: tomatoes, peppers, carrots, cucumbers add lemon juice, salt, mix the ingredients. cut, lettuce, onions, small, pieces wash parsley

A vegetable Salad Making a vegetable salad is very easy. The choice of its ingredients is very important as it affects its whole savor. First you should choose the ingredients that suit your taste. Among the ingredients that can be chosen are tomatoes, carrots, cucumbers, lettuce, onions and peppers. After washing the salad ingredients carefully, they should be cut into small pieces and put in a clean bowl. Then you can add a little salt and lemon juice. Finally, mix the whole ingredients and enjoy having this useful healthy dish. The structure of the red colored clauses are called parallel structure and the blue conjunction is one of the coordinating conjunctions; FANBOYS (and, but, or, nor, for, yet, so).

Parallel structure means using the same pattern of words to show that two or more words or ideas are of equal importance and to help the reader comprehend what is being written. Notes the following examples: 1- Ali likes to ski, to swim and to jump. This is correct and uses parallel structure. An incorrect version of this sentence would read: Ali likes to ski, to swim and jumping. 2- Joe likes singing, walking and diving. This is correct and uses parallel structure. An incorrect version of this sentence would read: Joe likes singing, walking and to dive.

Other Examples of Parallel Structures: 1- Mary wanted to make sure that she made her presentation creatively, effectively and persuasively. This is correct and uses parallel structure. An incorrect version of this sentence would read: Mary wanted to make sure she made her presentation creatively, effectively and persuaded others. 2- Tim was considered to be a good employee because he was never late, he was very motivated and he was not lacking initiative. This is correct and uses parallel structure. An incorrect version of this sentence would read: Tim was considered to be a good employee because he was never late, he was very motivated and he did not lack initiative.

Correct the mistakes in the following parallel structure: 1- I stopped the short boy and the man. I stopped the short boy and the tall man. 2- Dogs are great pets for the following reasons: they are loyal, they are loving and because of their obedience. Dogs are great pets for the following reasons: they are loyal, they are loving and they are obedient. 3- Ahmed wants to swim and playing football. Ahmed wants to swim and to play football.
