Wind Power Overview Wind power is the conversion of wind energy into useful form, such as electricity, using wind turbines. It currently produces just over 1% of world-wide electricity use

Wind Farm Myths and Facts Building a wind farm takes more energy than it will be able to produce Wind farms are inefficient and only work a third of the time Wind farms rely too heavily on back up to keep the turbine moving Wind farms have no great effect on climate change

Wind Power VS Solar Power Wind power and solar power are both renewable sources of energy They both however have there advantages and disadvantages They are also affected heavily by location, as they both require certain climate factors

Wind Power Advantages Wind is free if available (obviously) Good source for periodic water pumping demands of farms as used earlier in 1900's Generation and maintenance costs have decreased. Wind is proving to be a reasonable cost renewable source. Well suited to rural areas

Solar Power Advantages Sunlight is free when available Produces large amounts of energy, enough to heat houses, offices and public buildings

Wind Power Disadvantages Limited to windy areas. Highly climate dependent - wind can damage equipment during windstorms or not turn during still summer days. Can affect endangered birds, however tower design can reduce impact..

Solar Power Disadvantages Limited to typically sunny areas throughout the world (demand can be highest when least available, e.g winter solar heating) Does require special materials for mirrors/panels that can affect environment Current technology requires large amounts of land for small amounts of energy generation

Wind Power – Effect on the Environment Numerous people have claimed Turbines are causing bird fatalities, this chart shows the minimal effect that Turbines has Wind Power – a renewable source of energy which acts as an alternative to carbon emitting fuels

Renewable Energy VS Non Renewable This shows the difference between the 2, highlighting things such as pollution caused by use!
