Overview Estate Owned by: Nicodemo Librandi Wine Region: Calabria Winemaker: Donato Lanati Total Acreage Under Vine: 580 Estate Founded: 1952 Winery Production: 2,500,000 Bottles

Location The Librandi winery is headquartered in Cirò Marina in the region of Calabria. Located between the sea and the Sila Mountains; this guarantees an excellent balance between day and nighttime temperatures. Librandi is one of the best-known properties in the Cirò region located just to the north of Rocca di Neto— a steep, winding dotted ridge that is difficult to work The combination of its unique soil and location between the sea and the Sila Mountains, with cool evenings, results in a wonderful expression of the unique local grape, Gaglioppo

History In the 1950’s, after growing grapes for four generations, the Librandi family decided to produce and bottle their own wines. Company management has always been kept in the family’s hands, while Donato Lanati, Professor of Oenology at the Universities of Turin and Florence, is the consulting winemaker. The family continues working to improve quality and restore the fame enjoyed by the Cirò vineyards and wines in ancient times.

History The Librandi brothers run the winery themselves so as to stay in close contact with their land and their wines The Librandi family has performed a number of successful experiments involving planting of a series of internationally renowned varieties. All Librandi wines and olive oils are made exclusively from estate-grown grapes and olives.

Philosophy "The future of our wine depends on our ability to meld tradition with innovation, without the one overcoming the other”

The Vineyards With regards to sources for oil and grapes, Librandi can count on production from its holdings. Covering a total surface area of 898 acres, of which 580 are vineyards, 250 olive groves, and the rest dedicated to woodlands The vineyards are planted with both local varietals (Gaglioppo, Magliocco and Mantonico) and international varietals. Librandi also runs an experimental vineyard with ancient local varietals.

The Vineyards The properties are located in several communes in the area. 58 hectares are found in the historical part of the Cirò DOC region, specifically the fields of Cirò Marina and Torretta di Crucoli. The 128 acres of the Critone farm however, are found in the commune of Strongoli, which is part of the Melissa DOC and the Val di Neto IGT territory. The 625 acres of the adjacent Rosaneti and Palmento Murato farms are found on the border of the Casabona and Rocca di Neto communes, and they too are included in the Melissa DOC and the Val di Neto IGT.

The Future In the establishment and evolution of experimental fields, Librandi has had a triple objective: The qualitative improvement of regional varietals already being grown A study of the untapped potential of the ancient regional vines with the aim of launching new and unique products. The acquisition and preservation of the regional vine-growing patrimony, by means of historic and scientific study.

Production Production is divided into three branches. 1.A first series of DOC wines including Cirò Rosso and Cirò Rosso Riserva Duca Sanfelice, Cirò Bianco and Cirò Rose 2.Another series of DOC wines (Melissa) including Asylia Rosso and Bianco 3.A more ambitious group of innovative products presented as IGT These wines are based on indigenous grapes such as Gaglioppo, Magliocco and Mantonico, as well as noble vines of more recent introduction which have been planted at the Critone, Rosaneti and Palmento Murato farms.
