School Improvement plan priorities 2015-16 Priority 1: Improve the quality of teaching and learning and accelerate pupils’ progress Priority 2: Improve the effectiveness of leadership at all levels, including subject leaders Priority 3: Improve the effectiveness of the governing body Priority 4:Improve behaviour and safety so that it is consistently good at all times Priority 5: Develop the distinctiveness and effectiveness of the school as a church school

Priority 1: Improve the quality of teaching and accelerate pupils’ progress Set challenging targets for attainment and progress Robust monitoring of the quality of teaching Ensure all staff access high quality training and professional development Embed new assessment procedures to ensure teacher assessment is secure Review provision for pupils with additional learning needs Ensure marking and feedback is effective

How can governors help? Governors approve targets for attainment and progress Governors receive the Headteacher’s reports on the standards of teaching and learning and ask challenging questions! Governors visit the school to conduct their own monitoring, for example they complete Learning walks and review data to measure progress and attainment over time

Priority 2: Improve the effectiveness of leadership at all levels, including subject leaders Clarify roles and expectations for all leaders Provide training and support to develop them Set robust appraisal objectives directly linked to pupil achievement Ensure parents are given timely information about their child’s progress Ensure any additional funding is closely tracked for how well it is improving pupil outcomes Develop a rich and stimulating curriculum that meets the needs of all learners

How can governors help? Governors meet with subject leaders to evaluate the impact of work in their subject area Governors review the impact of additional funding such as Sports premium and Pupil premium funding. Governors the effectiveness of the curriculum through their visits and through talking to pupils, teachers and parents

Priority 3: Develop the effectiveness of the governing body Reinstate a governing body Train new governors Appraise the Headteacher Report progress to parents on a regular basis Provide strategic support such as setting the school budget, Assist in recruitment, Review policies Consult with parents, children and staff

Priority 4: Improve behaviour and safety Improve the quality of teaching so that pupils develop excellent ‘learning behaviours’ Maintain robust safeguarding procedures Ensure the Headteacher reports on any bullying or behaviour incidents and how they have been addressed

How can governors help? Health and safety audits Termly monitoring visits Reviews of the Single Central Record Reviews of behaviour logs and accident records

Priority 5: Develop the distinctiveness and effectiveness of the school as a church school Ensure Collective worship is of a high quality that supports the spiritual development of pupils and staff Review the quality of R.E. teaching in the school Further develop the learning environment to provide ‘quiet’ space for reflection

How can governors help? Consult all stakeholders about their values and aims for the school Liaise with parents (SPA) to ensure money raised is used to support the development of the learning environment, both indoors and outside Attend school events to participate in collective worship and celebrations of learning Support the school through its SIAMS Church inspection

Governor Responsibilities Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction Holding the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent (DfE, Governors Handbook, 2015)

Timescale for Parent Elections From now until the nominations any interested candidates can contact Kevin Rylett or Tim Bailey Friday 2nd October receive nominations Friday 9th October ballot papers sent out Thursday 22rd October midday, ballot counted.
