What does EHS have to offer?  EHS has been living the Pirate Pride since 1913!  We are a comprehensive 4-year high school with several unique and very successful programs.  We are proud of our academic distinctions; 33 Boettcher Scholars, 7 Daniels Fund Scholars, and 4 appointments to US military academies in the last 10 years.  We offer the AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) program in grades 9-12 and a full range of academic and elective college-level courses.  We have State award-winning Band, Choir, and the Pirateer school newspaper.  We offer 22 athletic teams with no participation fees!

5. What does EHS have to offer?  Maintaining a safe school environment for students and staff of EHS and ELA.  Bringing back the Pirate Pride!  Connecting adults with students and raising achievement for all students.  Defining who we are and what we stand for will be a huge community- wide process that will happen over many months. The result should be a clear vision for EHS as we head into the 21st century.  Implementing our Response to Intervention Program (RtI) and Positive Behavior Intervention Support (PBIS) systems so students get the help they need to be successful.

6. EHS has the majority of its competition to the south in Littleton and some to the west in Sheridan. There are few if any students that decide to leave EHS and go to a DPS school. The four schools that act as the main competition are listed in order 1. Heritage HS, 2. Littleton HS, 3. Sheridan HS, 4. Mullen HS. Students primarily move to Littleton Schools, such as Heritage and Littleton if they choose to leave EHS. These school are larger, have a more rigorous curriculum and less diverse with a high socio economic base. The majority of the students who leave to go to a LPS school are white. The two other schools to the west are very different. Students leave to go to Mullen for academic and athletic reasons whereas they leave to go to Sheridan for more cultural reasons. I had one student in my class this year transfer to Sheridan because she was Hispanic and tired of all the drama at EHS and felt it was a better environment for her at Sheridan. Sheridan has a higher Hispanic population than EHS. EHS and its competition

17. Market Desires The market desires technology and useful applications in the classroom. Mullen is rolling out a 1:1 Tablet program for the fall of 2013 in which students will be required to have that technology. I use technology in my classroom and believe this innovation is where the classroom of the 21 st century needs to be heading. I asked all of the teachers in my SS department and the English department if they would use Tablets in class and got a resounding yes. They spoke of the need to have students buy specific apps for their classes but would welcome the opportunity to be able to use Tablets in class.

Dream Educational Innovation / Venture  My vision or dream for Englewood High School:  Clean and safe school  Many extra-curricular activities as well as clubs  Parents who are willing to participate and volunteer at school  Healthy campus (fitness center) with proper nutritional foods to promote good health  Environment in which students respect each other and are required to wear a uniform and not use profane language  Open communication  Highly motivated teachers with ample opportunity to plan  Rigorous curriculum with high expectations from teachers, students and parents  Strong administration that wants to work collaboratively  Resources for all classrooms

19. Dream Educational Innovation / Venture My vision or dream for Englewood High School: I would like to have a school with 1:1 Tablets and the technology to match in every classroom. There would need to be sufficient funds available to be able to supply apps for specific classes and training for the staff. I would create a school with classes that STEM classes, Honors and AP classes but also technical classes for students who will just be going into the work force instead of college. We have many students at EHS that would benefit from both of these categories.

20. Dream Educational Innovation / Venture A campus that had the previous criteria would have a competitive edge over all the other schools in our area. Mullen is going 1:1 Tablets in the fall of 2013 but if we had this technology and higher level classes plus technical courses that could move students toward non-degree seeking jobs; then we would be a very popular school.
