Treaty of Versailles The Treaty of Versailles was signed on 28 June 1919. The allies signed the Treaty in the Hall of Mirrors in the palace of Versailles near Paris.

What the Treaty said Germany lost land to Belgium and to the new country of Poland Germany also had to return Alsace and Lorraine to France. The overseas colonies belonging to Germany were taken away. 100 000 men were the limit to Germany’s army Germany was to have no air force or submarines. There was no German soldiers or weapons to be placed within the border of France.

Germany Defenceless Germany had to accept the blame for starting the war. Due to this Germany had to pay reparations. They also had to pay to repair damages done to French and Belgian property during the war. In the Saar region of Germany all the coal mined had to go to France for 15 years.

How Germany Felt Germany were angry as they had been forced to accept the punishments that the treaty contained Germans also had to live under the foreign rule in Poland and Czechoslovakia The Deutsche Zeitung (German News) spoke for many Germans on the 28 June 1919, a black mourning band surrounded the main article
