Core Positioning Statement: T he philosophy of inclusive education is embedded into the pedagogical framework of Connexions to help teachers meet the diverse needs of all learners. The tools of differentiation, technology, authentic contexts, social agency, and choice help students feel motivated to learn and use French within, and beyond, the walls of the Grade 9 classroom. Emotional hook: With our focus on differentiation, diversity, and engagement, we will help teachers reach and motivate every student in Grade 9 FSL.

3 Presentation Title runs here l 00/00/002 Senior Authors KATY ARNETT CALLIE MADY Katy is widely regarded as the most influential expert on differentiation in the Second-Language classroom today. Her most recent book, Languages for All, is a Pearson resource and is a perfect lead-in for the Grade 9 project. Callie is an instantly recognizable name in the field of FSL and is hailed as an expert in classroom adaptations and accommodations for English Language Learners in the Second-Language classroom. Their involvement in the project will provide a significant amount credibility and practical know-how to the resource regarding its ability to meet the needs of diverse learners and the diversity of today’s classrooms.

6 Guiding Principles Differentiated & adaptive paths Students have choice around performance tasks Differentiated paths are provided for teachers whcih consider language needs, but also processes, product, and content of learning Relevant and Ongoing Assessment Regular “Learning Checks” with students Students choose when skills in certain areas are assessed Students can choose appropriate support tools during assessment moments Core belief that all students will attain proficiency, even though paths vary Address both Academic and Applied programs Intercultural Understanding is woven throughout A variety of cultures and cultural learning (not only Francophone) are incorporated and reflected in different elements of texts
