Introduction O Of the many important issues within our classrooms today, race and ethnicity are one of the most important. O Today, many classrooms across the United States are becoming increasingly diverse. O As classrooms become more diverse it becomes more important for teachers to be aware themselves, and to make their students aware as well.

Preparing Ourselves O Explore personal and family histories. O Learn about the history and experiences of diverse groups. O Develop a true appreciation of diversity.

Preparing Our Students O We can use a variety of activities such as: O Music and dance O Sharing traditions O Talk positively. O Provide opportunity.

Reflection O If we start now, while our students are young and impressionable they will be able to apply the skills they learn throughout their lives and make society a better place for everyone.
