Michael Jeffery Jordan Presenting: Roee Moyal Emil Agekolive

Our reasons for doing a project on Michael Jordan are: 1. We spend a lot of time each day (a couple hours) in basketball. Michael Jordan is one of the best sports men of all times, and he is the best basketball player in the history of basketball. For example, he leads all time leaders in points per game with 30.1, he is the only player to score 40 points in one game after the age of 40. He was also a great athlete and the example for this is the fact that he won back to back slam dunk championships in 1988 and 1989.

Because of the fact that he is the best basketball player to play the game (basketball) and that we like basketball so much, we chose to do the project on him. 2. Michael Jordan is an example of how a celebrity should behave when he isn't doing his job, and how any man in the world should behave when he isn't doing his job. We wanted to do this project and find out how it happened that he is such a good model and how is such a nice person. 3. We knew that most basketball players had a difficult childhood and we wanted to know if this is right in his case too.

Michael Jeffery Jordan was born February 17 1963 in Brooklyn, New York. To James and Delores Jordan. Michael was more of a recreational athlete as a young boy, sometimes lazy, usually discouraged because he could not compete with his older brother Larry. He was not very tall during his early years and did not have much hope of being that tall. there were no men in his family over six feet (183 cm). Background

At age of twelve he was named the top player of the league. When he reached Laney High School as a tenth grader, he was already 5’10’’ (156 cm), two inches taller than his dad. The varsity team needed an extra player seeing the playoffs were coming up, so Michael thought for sure that they would pick him, but when his teammate Leroy Smith was the chosen one it was tough for Michael to take. It made sense though, he was 5’10’’ and Leroy was 6’5’’ (196 cm) and varsity needed height.

Michael’s new dedication to making the varsity team as a junior had drawbacks he was cutting classes and going to the gym to practice. Between his sophomore and junior year he shot up from 5’10’’(156 cm) to 6’3’’(190 cm). Michael was starting to made a name for himself.

Michael went to North Carolina collage and played for them basketball. The most important game in his collage career, was against Georgetown, in this game Michael hit the game winning shot. He became eligible for the NBA draft once he said he wanted to play in the NBA instead of finishing collage. Jordan was drafted to the Chicago Bulls in 1984, and here his NBA career starts…

1. q. Where were you born? a. I was born in Brooklyn, New York on February 17, 1963. Interview

2. q. What are your parent's names? a. My parent's names are: James and Deloris Jordan.

3. q. How many brothers and sisters do you have? a. I have five brothers and sisters and I am the fourth child out of six children. My brother's and sister's names are Ronnie, James, Roslyn, Larry, and Deloris

4. q. How old were you when you started dunking? a. Ninth grade was the first time I remember dunking. My vertical leap was pretty tall. It was in the high 30 inches

5. q. You influenced the NBA greatly. How do you think LeBron James will impact the NBA? a. I think he will be an immediate sensation, but there are a lot of things he will have to get used to, such as losing games. He will lose more games before the All-Star break then he did in high school. It will be interesting to see how he deals with it. But he has so many skills, I think he will be a success.

6. q. As one of the greatest athletes ever, what other athletes do you have the most respect or admiration for? Who do you most admire in today's sports world? a. I would probably say Barry Bonds is one of them because he's been doing it a long time at the high level. And as I watch the World Series, I noticed they walked him on purpose three times. That shows the ultimate respect. Of course, Tiger. I'm just one of those guys who like to see games played at the highest level.

In fact, I've gone to a couple of the WNBA games, and a couple of those women are very admirable. I like major league sports in general. But I'm also one of those old guys that go to high school basketball games. I like watching players play well. The only things I look for are the good things in players. So there are no really bad players but there are great players.

7. q. Besides Shaq there's doesn't seem to be any dominant centers left. With the retirement of Olajuwon, and now Robinson is gone. There won't be any. Why do you think that is? a. It's a generational thing. Each generation produces athletes and most generations are different sizes. There was an era when you had Baylor, Pettit, Bird, who were great, great forwards. And when I first got in the league, Bob Cousy was really the only really good PG.

When I was playing, we just had too many good centers. There were never nights off. We had Chamberlin, Reed, Thurmond and you might run into those guys five nights in a row. Right now, because of of the success of guards, example my self I think, most of your strength is at shooting guard. So, what the coaches have to do is build their systems around their talent. But Shaq would be outstanding in any era.

And there's some guys who can play against him. Tim Duncan, for one. Duncan is close to being as good as Shaq, and he has a different set of skills. But he could play center if he wanted to. I think he's the most fundamentally sound of all players. And Kevin Garnett, if he decided to play down on the blocks, would be unstoppable.
