Holter Monitor 2 Bioastronautics Flight Research Program Johnson Space Center, Houston, TX 2 Introduction Holter Monitor 2: – An ambulatory electrocardiograph device that non-invasively measures the electrical activity of the heart – Commercial-off-the-shelf hardware from Mortara Instruments modified for spaceflight ISS Experiments: – CCISS (Inc. 18) – Integrated Cardiovascular (Inc. 20) – Available to support future science experiments as facility hardware

Holter Monitor 2 Bioastronautics Flight Research Program Johnson Space Center, Houston, TX 3 Session Objectives Identify hardware components and discuss their function Describe hardware setup, operation, and interfaces Apply 10 lead and 6 lead electrocardiogram (ECG) electrodes in the proper configuration Follow procedures to perform and on-orbit hardware functional check Disassemble and stow the hardware

Holter Monitor 2 Bioastronautics Flight Research Program Johnson Space Center, Houston, TX 4 Holter Monitor 2 Check-Out Overview This training will focus on the Holter Monitor 2 Check-Out Purpose: –Verify functionality of hardware system prior to experiment use –Exercise the internal components –Record physiological data for ground engineering evaluation Procedure designed to be flexible: –Can checkout 1-4 Compact Flash (CF) Card/Harness combinations –Exec. Notes control procedure

Holter Monitor 2 Bioastronautics Flight Research Program Johnson Space Center, Houston, TX 5 Holter Monitor 2 Interface LCD Screen Up/Right Arrow *Note: Right function only used when entering ID info Down Arrow Enter Key

Holter Monitor 2 Bioastronautics Flight Research Program Johnson Space Center, Houston, TX 6 Holter Monitor 2 Kit One Holter Monitor 2 – Records ECG data onto the CF Card for digital data storage Two types of Holter Harnesses: – 10-lead Harness (2x) – 6-lead Harness (2x) Two types of CF Cards: – HiFi CF Card (2x) – LowFi CF Card (2x) One Compact Flash to PCMCIA Adapter – Allows for data transfer from the CF Card to the HRF PC

Holter Monitor 2 Bioastronautics Flight Research Program Johnson Space Center, Houston, TX 7 Holter Monitor 2 Consumables Kit One HRF AA Battery Kit – Contains twelve AA Batteries (1.5 V) One Holter Shaving Kit – Shaving Razor – Sensor Razor Cartridges (5x) Session Packs – Contains: HRF Common Electrodes, Biocide Wipes, and Opsite Covers (large and small) – Consumables in Session Packs will be used according to activity being performed

Holter Monitor 2 Bioastronautics Flight Research Program Johnson Space Center, Houston, TX 8 Holter Monitor 2 Check-Out Prepare Electrode Sites/Attach 10-lead Harness Set-up Holter Monitor 2 with HiFi CF Card and gather data Insert HiFi CF Card into PC Transfer data from HiFi CF Card to PC Conclude operations

Holter Monitor 2 Bioastronautics Flight Research Program Johnson Space Center, Houston, TX 9 Holter Checkout Training Summary Identification of Hardware Overview of Check-out activity Using crew procedures: –Electrode Site Preparation –Donning the Holter Monitor 2 and Harness –Setting up the Holter Monitor 2 with a CF Card –Data Acquisition –Copying Data to PC –Stowing Conclusion/Key Points

Holter Monitor 2 Bioastronautics Flight Research Program Johnson Space Center, Houston, TX 10 Key Points Shave to promote electrode conductivity Ensure proper electrode placement per placard Confirm the battery door is fully closed Do not force the CF Card into the Compact Flash to PCMCIA Adapter

Holter Monitor 2 Bioastronautics Flight Research Program Johnson Space Center, Houston, TX 11 HRF Digital Holter Recorder/ Holter Monitor 2 Differences

Holter Monitor 2 Bioastronautics Flight Research Program Johnson Space Center, Houston, TX 12 Overview Both the Holter Recorder and the Holter Monitor 2 provide non-invasive, ECG data for HRF experiments on ambulatory ISS crewmembers Holter Monitor 2 is the next generation ECG device –Higher resolution –Less mass –Fewer batteries

Holter Monitor 2 Bioastronautics Flight Research Program Johnson Space Center, Houston, TX 13 Holter Recorder Holter Monitor 2 Pushbuttons: Advance (A), Select (S) and Mode (M) LCD Screen: Alphanumeric Information Only Orientation: Screen Faces Crewmember 7-lead Harness No Adapter Pushbuttons: Up/Right Arrow, Down Arrow, and Enter Key LCD Screen: Alphanumeric and Graphical Information Orientation: Screen Faces away from crewmember 10-lead and 6-lead Harness CF to PCMCIA Adapter Interface Differences

Holter Monitor 2 Bioastronautics Flight Research Program Johnson Space Center, Houston, TX 14 Differences Key Points Holter Monitor 2 is higher resolution Holter Monitor 2 pushbuttons are graphical rather than text Holter Monitor 2 screen faces away from the crewmember rather than toward Holter Monitor 2 has option for 6 or 10 leads
