Lines Tangent to Circles Making Inferences
2
2 Minutes – 1 Per Pair Pick up: MarkerYardstickProtractor Glue Stick Scissors Orange Paper Do: Hang circle paper on top 1/3 of poster paper Leave supplies, return to your seats
3
Tangent Lines Let’s practice drawing lines tangent to a circle
4
Picture Instructions With your partner, complete the checklist part of your paper. DON’T do the bottom part yet. STOP after you’ve measured degrees and labeled on your poster. 10 minutes
5
Gallery Walk Tour the room...observe the other findings Return to your poster, and complete the rest of the Picture Instructions Sheet 6 minutes Return your supplies Return to your seats
6
Group Discussion What inferences can we make about circles and tangent lines? Use geometric vocabulary!
7
Our Inferences If a line is tangent to a circle, then the line is perpendicular to the radius at the point of tangency. If two tangent segments to a circle share a common endpoint outside the circle, then the two segments are equal.
8
Problems, problems, everywhere! Become an expert on your assigned problem. Be ready to share with the class by using the document camera to show your thinking.
9
Exit Slip Complete and hand in as you leave. Thank you for being willing to learn today!
