OHIP partnership of 9 Housing Providers, 20,000 properties, 40 Group Scheme facilities, mixed tenure communities – the foothold into Oldhams communities Business Plan objectives – Health and Well Being objectives for residents and communities in Oldham Health and Well Being OHIP Sub Group Strategic Housing Board Older Persons Housing Strategy Health and Well Being Board 2013 District Partnerships – Health and Well Being sub committees

7 Health and Well Being in Oldham Examples of current activities – Group Scheme facilities:- -all include tenants and local community residents Yoga Armchair exercises Healthy Eating – cross generational cookery sessions Crafts Social Businesses – tenant shops Grow your own – vegetable plots and greenhouses Befriending clubs General social events – promote healthy mental and social interaction Interaction with community events – sense of belonging

8 Health and Well Being in Oldham Examples of current Health activities in Group Scheme facilities (up to 40 buildings in total) Clinic bases Healthy legs clinics Falls clinics ( NB under – use for traditional health activities, scope for expansion) Alternative health – by popular demand ! i.e. Promoting well being in a more holistic sense Aromatherapy Massage Relaxation techniques

9 Health and Well Being in Oldham Future scope for community promotion of Health and Well Being campaigns and activities Better use of all housing facilities – offices, group schemes, Anti- smoking campaigns – door to door plus stalls/exhibitions Alcohol campaigns Exercise – walking groups, local history walks, swimming clubs Staff initiatives Use of all estate bases for campaigns Raising awareness – see how it’s done coffee mornings! Make it fun ! – link activities e.g. local community shop, community cafes Cross generational Emphasis on socialising, making a difference Some future ‘blue sky’ thinking e.g. healthy food co-ops – use of community bases for community sales ‘we’re too busy to rest!’

Be led by success Not be afraid to fail – better ideas come from what didn’t work Listen to what works – e.g. community anti- smoking campaigns are classic examples
