All land in Zambia vested in President who holds it in perpetuity for and on behalf of the Zambian people. Through Statutory Instrument, the president has delegated day-to-day land administration to the Commissioner of Lands. LAND ALIENATION PROCEDURES

Dual tenure system in Zambia namely Statutory and Customary Freehold tenure abolished in 1975 and all freehold titles reduced to leasehold tenure not exceeding 99 years. Administration of land guided by the Lands Act of 1995 (Cap 184 of the Laws of Zambia) LAND ALIENATION PROCEDURES

State land Prospective owner submits application to Council. Interviews undertaken and Council sends recommendation to Commissioner of Lands. Offer letter issued and acceptance fee paid. Survey diagram submitted, lease typed and Certificate of Title is prepared LAND ALIENATION PROCEDURES

The Lands Acquisition Act (1970) grants the President the power to compulsorily acquire property of any description The state may offer the landholder a grant of other land or just compensation. End Compulsory Acquisition
