2 THE INVASIONS Britain was invaded by different people from 500 BC to 600 AD:
The Celts The Romans The Anglo-Saxons The Vikings The Normans

3 The Celts In 500 BC the Celts arrived from the north of Europe by boats. They were warrios and farmers. They lived in villages and their houses were round with the roofs made of staw. The Celts used iron tools and they were very artistic, infact their art is still popular today in Scotland and Ireland. Celtic art is based on continuos lines and knots.

4 The Romans The Romans came to England twice: the first time Julius Caesar arrived in 55 BC and in 54 BC, but he left the country because of the stormy weather. thesecond time the Romans arrived in 43 AD and they stayed for 400 years ; when they left England in about 410 it was because Rome was in danger from Gothic attacks.

5 The Romans BATHS, CITIES, LATIN, the CATHOLIC FAITH
In England they left : BATHS, CITIES, LATIN, the CATHOLIC FAITH and the HADRIAN’ S WALL. The Hadrian’s wall was built by Emperor Hadrian between AD in order to defend the roman territories against the Scottish tribes who caused many problems .

6 The Anglo-Saxons The Anglo-Saxons arrived in Britain in the 5th century AD. They came from Holland, Denmark and Germany.They steyed there more or less 500 years and they pushed the Celts into Cornwall, Wales and Scotland, then the formed kingdoms. This people was not Christian, they believed in different gods: Woden, god of war and Frigg goddes of love.

7 The Vikings The Vikings came in 865 AD from the north of Europe and they arrived by their long and fast boats. They had some smaller parts of England because the biggest part of it was ruled by the Saxons

8 The Normans The Normans came from Northern France, Normandy, invaded England and defeated the Saxons in the Battle of Hastings in 1066. William I of Normandy became king of England,he was also called “William the Conqueror”. He built the Tower of London The Normans started the feudal system: the king was at the top and he gave land to the nobles in exchange for military service. The Normans ruled for 400 years and it wasn’t a paceful time: there were wars with Scotland and France, in 1348 the Black Death arrived and many people died. Other important events:
