: SICK, Inc.: Confidential AFS/AFM60 - What is it? : Name (Date)2 AFS/AFM 60 – Absolute encoder with 60 mm housing AFS60- Absolute Singleturn Encoder (18 bit resolution) AFM60- Absolute Multiturn Encoder (30 bit resolution) An absolute encoder retains position information even on a power loss. This is critical in applications where a machine needs to reorient itself without having to re-zero its settings. For example: Absolute encoder applications: lead/ball screws robotics overhead cranes rack and pinion Application: Monitor angular position on a robotic arm at all times. Solution: Absolute encoder Application: Feedback on conveyor movement (Forward/Reverse direction) Solution: Incremental encoder

: SICK, Inc.: Confidential Customer Benefits/Competitive Advantages : Name (Date)10 Using Conventional encoders Customer challenge Using SICK AFS/AFM encoders 4Limited counts per revolutions Use interpolation to achieve high resolution The AFM60 offers a 30 bit resolution and the AFS60 offers a 18 bit resolution. Benefit : Increase accuracy and precision on applications 5Different cable out configurations and non field replaceable cables. Scrap encoder if cable is damaged Universal and Field replaceable cable on encoders Benefit : Reduce scrap, save on replacement cost 6After installing the encoder, use zero set option if available, otherwise use a scope to find reference. Increased set up time Zero set/Offset can be programmed prior to installation through the software interface or accessed by an external control wire. Benefit : Reduce set up/installation time
