College magazine – Cover page colour scheme  A lot of use of black  Not sure what message that you are trying to get across  Colour scheme works well. Definitely achieved the ‘studenty’ look Music magazine – Cover page colour scheme  I don’t like dark colours that you used in the other magazine, but I like the colours in this.  Attracted by the simplicity of the design  Love the design of the magazine’s name  The front cover is not for me, it is more for the younger generation. I don’t know any of the bands, but it looks good.  It looks like you have put a lot more thought in the overall design of the magazine and it shows. College magazine – Cover page photography  More thought needs to be put into the subject of the photo – you’ve got half of someone in it.  Good use of photography, make it looks like you caught the student studying without her knowing. Music magazine – Cover page photography  I can see a lot more detail and thought has been put into your work.

Front Cover College Magazine Music Magazine

College Magazine Music Magazine Simple font Two tone effect Variety of text size Diagonal lettering for ‘LSC’ Picture behind masthead Simple font Two tone effect Picture covering masthead Use of masthead as background Use of masthead for underline effect – the tail of the g and the y

College Magazine Music Magazine No flash lights used Used the camera on the phone Didn’t edited the picture by enhancing the colours Used a studio Used flash boxed Used a white background Edited picture Used a professional canon camera

Music Magazine One image used One page used Text goes around the image Consistent with colour scheme (blue, res and white) Four images used One main background image Blue and white mainly used Double page used Split into different sections

Colours used were red, blue and white These colours where chosen because I believe that these colours contrasted against each other well Colours used were blue white and black. I believe they go well with an R&B theme The colours have a relaxing feel to it The colour attracts both genders.

Software that I was already use to and used to create the front cover:  Photoshop – used for creating layers on both of the magazines. As I was already familiar with software due to my work in graphics design, I was able to transfer my knowledge and skills over to my media coursework. I was happy with the outcomes of both magazine designs. My main concern was using equipment that I was not familiar with e.g. the college’s camera. Getting the right lighting effect was essential for me to attract my audience. I believe that my music magazine shows a great improvement within this area.

New software that I learned about during the development of my magazines were:  Adobe Indesign – used to create both of the content pages for the music and college magazine. I was happy with my first attempt with making the college’s contents page, as I need to learn about positioning the text, and deleting the background from the original image. I continued to use these skills in my music made, but was also able to create boxes, retain the original tones and colours while enlarging the image without making it look like a ‘stretched affect’; how to put borders around text; and how to change a colour image into black and white and adjust the contrast and tone.  Adobe Illustrator – used to create the masthead for the music magazine but not for the college. In the college magazine I just used ordinary text to create it. In the music magazine I decided to learn about this new software, and you can see that I have made great improvement in the impact that the masthead has for readers of the magazine. I learned how to stretch the tail-end of letters e.g. the letter “y” to help create a border/ underline for the name of my magazine and how to add two colours to a single letter.
