1 Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Psalm 37:4 Rev. David B. Hanson July 11, 2010 Deaf Liberty Baptist Church Overland Park, Kansas

2 What Desire You Should Have?  To Do God’s Will  John 7:17  If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself.

3 What Was Abraham’s Desire?  To Obey God to Do His Will  Genesis 18:17-19  17 And the LORD said, Shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do;  18 Seeing that Abraham shall surely become a great and mighty nation, and all the nations of the earth shall be blessed in him?  19 For I know him, that he will command his children and his household after him, and they shall keep the way of the LORD, to do justice and judgment; that the LORD may bring upon Abraham that which he hath spoken of him.

4 What Was Moses’ Desire?  To See God’s Glory  Exodus 33:18-23  18 And he said, I beseech thee, shew me thy glory.  19 And he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and I will proclaim the name of the LORD before thee; and will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will shew mercy on whom I will shew mercy.  20 And he said, Thou canst not see my face: for there shall no man see me, and live.  21 And the LORD said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon a rock:  22 And it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a clift of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand while I pass by:  23 And I will take away mine hand, and thou shalt see my back parts: but my face shall not be seen.

6 What Was Peter’s Desire?  To Have Productive and Effective Life in Christ  II Peter 1:5-7  5 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge;  6 And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness;  7 And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.

7 What Was John’s Desire?  To Walk in Christ’s Truth  2 John 1:4  4 I rejoiced greatly that I found of thy children walking in truth, as we have received a commandment from the Father.

8 What Was Paul’s Desire?  To Be a Follower of Christ  I Corinthians 11:1  Be ye followers of me, even as I also am of Christ.  Philippians 3:17-18  17 Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample.  18 (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ:

9 William Carey’s Desire  Father of Modern Missions  Isaiah 54:2-3  2 Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations: spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes;  3 For thou shalt break forth on the right hand and on the left; and thy seed shall inherit the Gentiles, and make the desolate cities to be inhabited.  Expect Great Things of God and Attempt Great Things for God
