Energy (REVIEW)
2
Two Forms of Energy Kinetic Energy – of MOTION KE = ½ mv 2 Potential Energy – Energy of POSITION PE = mgh (gravitational PE) (g = 9.8 m/s/s) ENERGY
3
UNITS!??! Energy is measured in JOULES (J).
4
Look at Potential Energy! Gravitational PE of the ball is directly proportional to the ball’s height. If the the PE at the top is 50 J, what is the PE (gravitational) for each level?

The Law of Conservation of Energy Energy cannot be created or destroyed, but it can be transformed. Watch the conversion (transfer) of energy between Potential and Kinetic as the roller coaster takes its trip along the track. NOTICE: Total Amount of Energy is always conserved (it’s always the same, it just takes on different forms in different amounts)
