3 Acrostic  A poem in which the first letter of each line spells out a word, name, or phrase when read vertically.

4 Bio  A bio poem is a simple poem written about a person, and it follows a predictable pattern.

5 Blank Verse  Blank verse is poetry that is written in unrhymed iambic pentameter. Blank verse is often unobtrusive and the iambic pentameter form often resembles the rhythms of ordinary speech. William Shakespeare wrote most of his plays in blank verse.

8 Concrete  Also known as Shape poems  Concrete poetry is a type of poetry that uses some sort of visual presentation to enhance the effect of the poem on the reader. 9 Diamante  A diamante poem, or diamond poem, is a style of poetry that is made up of seven lines. The text forms the shape of a lozenge or diamond (◊).

10 Epitaph  An epitaph is a commemorative inscription on a tomb or mortuary monument written in praise, or reflecting the life, of a deceased person.

11 Free Verse  Free verse is a form of poetry composed of either rhymed or unrhymed lines that have no set fixed metrical pattern. The early 20th-century poets were the first to write what they called "free verse" which allowed them to break from the formula and rigidity of traditional poetry.

12 Haiku  A Japanese verse form of three unrhyming lines in five, seven, and five syllables. It creates a single, memorable image.

13 Limerick  Limericks are short sometimes bawdy, humorous poems of consisting of five Anapestic lines. Lines 1, 2, and 5 of a Limerick have seven to ten syllables and rhyme with one another. Lines 3 and 4 have five to seven syllables and also rhyme with each other.

14 List  A list poem can be a list of either people, places, things you do, items, even ideas you may have. It can rhyme, but doesn’t have to. Repetition is often a tool used in a list poem.

15 Narrative  Narrative poetry is a form of poetry that tells a story, often making use of the voices of a narrator and characters as well; the entire story is usually written in metered verse. Narrative poems do not have to follow rhythmic patterns.

16 Ode  A formal, often ceremonious lyric poem that addresses and often celebrates a person, place, thing, or idea. 17 Quatrain  A four-line stanza, rhyming: -ABAC or ABCB (known as unbounded or ballad quatrain) -AABB (a double couplet) -ABAB (known as interlaced, alternate, or heroic) -ABBA (known as envelope or enclosed) -AABA  Quatrain poetry is a stanza or poem of four lines. There are many different types of sonnets.  A 14-line poem with a variable rhyme scheme originating in Italy and brought to England by Sir Thomas Wyatt and Henry Howard, Earl of Surrey, in the 16th century.  Literally a “little song,” the sonnet traditionally reflects upon a single sentiment, with a clarification or “turn” of thought in its concluding lines.
