2 Home automation deals with providing a network in the house which links  computers & peripheral equipment.  smart chip bearing household appliances like dish washers, washing machines, microwaves and other electrical appliances.  sub-systems like Heating, Ventilation, Air- conditioning (HVAC), and security systems. What Is Home Automation

3 The aim of the project is to control home appliances like Television, Refrigerator, and Lights and other home electrical appliances using a personal computer. In this project a PC is interfaced with a micro-controller and it is connected to relays to which the appliances which are to be controlled are connected. The micro-controller controls the relays for switching the appliances, ON or OFF. Pre-defined symbols are sent to the Microcontroller through RS232 cable WHAT THE PROJECT IS ALL ABOUT……????

7  The microcontroller used in this project is At89s52. Atmel Corporation introduced this at89s52 microcontroller.  This microcontroller belongs to 8051 family.  The At89s52 is a low-voltage, high-performance CMOS 8-bit microcomputer with 4K bytes of Flash programmable memory

9 FEATURES OF At89s52:  4K Bytes of Re-programmable Flash Memory.  2.7V to 6V Operating Range.  Fully Static Operation: 0 Hz to 24 MHz.  128 x 8-bit Internal RAM.  32 Programmable I/O Lines.  Two 16-bit Timer/Counters.  Six Interrupt Sources.  Programmable Serial UART Channel.

10 11.0592 MHz Crystal Oscillator The microcontroller we use doesn’t have a internal clock and hence should be clocked externally using the crystal oscillator. It is connected to the 2 timers inside as shown

11 POWER SUPPLY For any circuit a power supply is necessary. For our microcontroller we need a power supply of 5 volts. It is obtained by using the following block diagram. Step down T/F Bridge Rectifier Filter Circuit Regulator

13  The RS 232 ic used here is a 16 pin ic used to interface the microcontroller with the pc.  It is connected to a RS 232 cable which is connected at the parallel port in pc.  It is used because it can be easily interfaced with pc and acts as a trans receiver.

15  To control a 230 volts supply devices with a microcontroller of 5 volts supply it cannot be done directly.  It is because the microcontroller cannot withstand such high power.  So in order to do so the relays have been used …

18  So the program has been written in assembly language using the 8051 assembler.  The program has been burnt using the keil software onto the microcontroller.  Even the other software like embedded c also can be used to write the program.

19  USED FOR HOME AUTOMATION  EVEN USED IN LARGE INDUSTRIES WHERE IT IS NEEDED TO HANDLE MULTIPLE APPLIANCES  USED IN SMARTER ELECTRONICS ACCESSORIES  USED TO CONTROL ANY DEVICES USING PC……

21  IT IS CONNECTED USING AN RS-232 CABLE.TO REMOVE THE USE OF WIRES A TRANS RECEIVER RF MODULE CAN BE USED.  EVEN THE APPLIANCES CAN BE CONTROLLED USING THE PC FROM A REMOTE PLACE USING INTERNET.

22 By using this project we control all the Electrical appliances of Home using Personal Computer via RS232 as the communication medium between pc and controller. We are controlling the devices like light and fan and etc by sending signals from the pc to controller. This project also deals with interfacing a high voltage electrical device or DC / AC motor to high sensitive personal computer system.
