BAD EXAMPLE Looking at the example, what needs changed, fixed, added, or taken out?

SUBJECT LINE The subject line should always be relevant: giving the reader a hint about what the email is about. Examples “Business English absence” “Question about email assignment – Business English” “Monday 3/28 – Business English” Write a new subject line for the example email.

GREETING All formal and semi-formal emails need a greeting. With your partner, think of as many greetings as you can. Examples of greetings: To whom it may concern: Dear ____, Hi ______! Write a greeting for the example email.

INTRODUCTION SENTENCE In a formal/semi-formal email, you want to get to the point quickly. Don’t talk about the weather. An acceptable opening: “I hope this email finds you well.” Add an opening sentence to your email.

CONTENT Tips Keep your sentences together in one block. Be respectful and use polite language. Don’t use emoticons or slang words Take a minute to rewrite the sentences of the example email. Add polite language, and make sure all the sentences are in blocks.

CLOSING AND SIGNATURE Every formal or semi-formal email needs a closing and signature. What are some possible closings? Example closings: Best, Yours Truly, Sincerely, Love, Thanks, Until then, Looking forward to your reply, Which of these would fit the example best? Add it to your email.

ASSIGNMENT You’ll need to listen to a voice message (posted on the weebly website) and write an email response. Your email will need to include the following things: change the appointment make a suggestion confirm some information tell me how I should get back in touch with you (email, phone, fax, etc.) You will need to email me (stephanie.demott@gmail.com) using the language and format that we’ve learned today. Your email is due April 18 th, by midnight. This will be worth 5% of your grade.
