A. Motivation: God, gold & glory 1. Sailed down the St. Lawrence River looking for the Northwest Passage. How is the NW Passage related to “gold”? It would provide a direct route to China and India, and access to trade.

You are going to write a diary entry pretending to be either a French, English or Spanish colonist in the New World. You arrived a few weeks ago with other settlers to start a brand new town. Identify where you are settling, and which country it is a part of. Discuss your motivations to come to the new world, making sure to explain each one. Then, describe any hardships you encounter here and what happens with the Native Americans in the area.
