1
Newton’s First Law! An object at rest remains at rest, and an object in motion continues in motion with constant velocity unless the object experiences a net external force Aka – Objects are LAZY
2
Inertia The tendency of an object to resist motion Depends on an object’s mass The scientific term for Laziness!!
3
Newton’s Second Law Fnet = m * a F = Net Force (N) m = mass (kg) a = acceleration (m/s 2 ) The acceleration of an object is directly proportional to the net force acting on the object and inversely proportional to the object’s mass
4
Net Force Sum of all the forces acting on an object If Fnet = 0 –Forces are balanced –No acceleration
5
Roberto and Laura are studying across from each other at a wide table. Laura slides a 2.2 kg book toward Roberto. If the net force acting on the book is 1.6 N to the right, what is the book’s acceleration?
6
Objects on an Inclined Plane W FNFN θ
7
W FNFN θ θ
8
W FNFN θ 1.W = mg 2.F N = Wcos(θ) 3.Fa = Wsin(θ) 4.Fa = Fnet = m *a θ
