Pohela Boishakh is that festival which is celebrated publicly. It is celebrated irrespective of any religion and regional basis. This festival initially had begun from Jalaluddin Muhammad Akbar’s reign.

People from all different parts of the world wear the traditonal dress-code of that day. Men wear their traditional attire of dhoti or kurta or lungi or payejama along with panjabi. Women wear white saris with red border and adorn themselves with bindis, bangles and colourful flowers.

It is the custom of every bengalis it begin the day with the traditional breakfast consisting of panta-bhat, onion, green chilies, pickles and most importantly fried hilsa fish.

Thus according to the bengali calender it is the very first day being a holiday this day is celebrated all over Bangladesh and parts of India such as West Bengal. Infact this day is celebrated everywhere, wherever there exists Bengali community.
